Back to homeWhen I joined IVC Evidensia, a global leader in veterinary healthcare, the organisation was investing heavily in a multi-year digital transformation to improve how clinics operate and how customers engage with its services. The goal was to modernise critical workflows used daily by clinic staff, reduce friction in customer journeys, and create a more scalable digital platform that could support growth across a large international network.I worked closely with product managers, designers, and architects to translate complex operational needs into usable, well-designed digital experiences. My focus was on improving the frontend of internal clinic tools, ensuring they were faster, clearer, and better aligned with real-world usage in busy clinical environments. This involved shaping features from early discovery through delivery, balancing short-term usability gains with longer-term platform goals.Alongside feature delivery, I contributed to the wider effort of moving away from legacy systems towards a cloud-native, more modular product architecture. The work I delivered helped establish clearer patterns for frontend development and improved the consistency and reliability of key user flows, creating a stronger foundation for future iterations of the product. My time at IVC Evidensia was relatively short, as I moved on to pursue another opportunity that was a closer fit for my longer-term interests. Despite this, I made a meaningful impact during a critical phase of the programme and left behind improvements that continued to support the team’s product roadmap.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lead Engineer for the Booking & Reminders product suite, responsible for defining and delivering the end-to-end technical strategy across a user-facing system used by both clinic staff and pet owners, while integrating with existing Patient Management Systems and communications services.
  • Led the production launch of a new booking platform, built with React, TanStack Query, Zod, and MobX, coordinating deployment, monitoring, and post-release stability to ensure reliable booking and reminder flows across multiple clinics.
  • Established a modern frontend testing strategy using Vitest, React Testing Library, and Mock Service Worker, prioritising integration and component-level testing over brittle end-to-end coverage, significantly improving confidence in releases and long-term maintainability.
  • Architected a modular, reusable frontend architecture that allowed complete user journeys to be packaged as React modules and reused across both traditional server-side rendered applications and Next.js, reducing duplication and accelerating delivery of booking features across platforms.
  • Designed a shared component and journey system to support consistent booking experiences across products, improving usability while reducing time to market for new integrations and feature variants.
  • Championed accessibility as a first-class product concern, defining new design system standards aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA and embedding automated accessibility checks (including Axe) into the CI/CD pipeline to raise the baseline quality of every release.
  • Contributed to the cloud-native platform transition, working with AWS services including CDK, API Gateway, Amplify, and Cognito to support secure authentication, scalable APIs, and reliable communication workflows for bookings and reminders.
